Meal Tracking to Feel Good About Good and Your Body

Updated: Dec 27, 2024

One way to use the meal planner on Cocoon, other than just planning ahead, is to track what you did eat.

I like to use it for both, where I plan my meals in advance, **but of course plans can change or be modified**, so I adjust it to what I actually did eat, and check the box so I know it is done.

In the notes, I put down the benefits of the food I ate, from ingredients to taste to satisfaction. If I ate a dosa and some chutney for breakfast, in the notes I write what the peanuts are good for iron and a good source of protein, and that the dosa has complex carbs and a bit of protein to keep me energised and satisfied.

I record every meal, every tea and piece of fruit in the day. At the end of the day, I can review everything I ate and see how I nourished my body and mind, but also I can see if maybe I don’t want to drink as much tea tomorrow, or maybe I think I’d like to eat a little more fruit or add more carbohydrates to my meals. You can adjust this to suit you, and the meal planner can be used however you find most beneficial, but I find that recording and reviewing at the end of the day or week can really help you feel more connected to yourself.

A note on how this helps me with cravings: I tend to get addicted to milder forms of caffeine, like dark chocolate and tea. These are things I can sometimes consume a bit mindlessly and without much restriction, because tea is just a bunch of water, right? But recording each piece of chocolate or each mug of tea actually helps me feel satisfied, and the next time I feel the craving for it, I know how much I already had that day. So I’m not stopping out of guilt or commitment, but because I really feel that my system already has this thing I am reaching for out of habit, and then I feel that I don’t need more for the day.

Tip: Please remember to put in the start date for the sorting to be logical. This way, you can even go a month or more to review/ plan your nutrition.

Note: This idea is to help you be mindful and appreciate your food and yourself for taking care of your body, but of course you might not remember to record every single thing, and that is fine. You don’t have to stress about recording every meal, do it if you can, or later when you have time, or skip a few, it is all ok. You will progress overall and gradually- it doesn’t need to be perfect to be effective.
